The Somerville Bowling Club
The Somerville Bowling Club is one of the most successful sporting clubs on the Mornington Peninsula, offering something for everybody. The Club is located towards the Northern end of the Mornington Peninsula just 10 minutes from both Frankston and Mornington.
The Club was formed in the mid 1950's with the first season being in 1957, the Club is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary. In recent years The Somerville Bowling Club has grown considerably and today is home to just over 180 members.
From outdoor bowls in either pennant competition, major bowls tournaments or social bowls, to indoor bowls or simply a place to stop at the end of a day to meet with friends, the Club has a friendly and welcoming attitude towards all that use our facilities and welcomes everyone.
The Club has 104 players represented in pennant matches each week. The VLBA section fields 2 teams in the Peninsula District Ladies Bowls Association (PDLBA) and one side in VLBA Saturday competition. The RVBA section has 5 sides, one in the newly formed joint premier competition, known as the Nepean League and four teams in the Peninsula Bowls Association all playing on Saturdays.
The Somerville Bowling Club prides itself on its ability to create history on the Mornington Peninsula. Recently the Club became the first bowling club to install the world famous and superior carpet surface, Bowls Weave by TigerTurf. This surface has served two main purposes since being installed during the 2007 winter. Firstly it has helped environmentally by significantly reducing the amount of water used by the Club each year, in round terms aprrox. 1,800,000 litres of mains water. Secondly the new surface has given a year round consistency for all bowlers to enjoy their day of competition, either during pennant, club championships or social bowls. This has also allowed us to play over the winter months having games on a Monday, Thursday and Saturday with a monthly tournament on a Sunday.
The club also has a full compliment of accredited coaches as well as a number of State and National umpires.
The Club is quite progressive in its nature and is building for its future by providing an environment that suits all levels of bowls ability and social interaction.
